Iowa DSA members: call your senators on May 10th about the AHCA

Last week, House Republicans forced through an inefficient and truly unjust healthcare bill: the American Health Care Act (AHCA). In immediate response, DSA’s National Political Committee issued a statement and call to action urging members across the country to call their Senators to pressure them to reject the House’s AHCA.
The Dubuque Local of DSA is joining with the Quad Cities and Central Iowa DSA chapters to hold a call-in on Wednesday, May 10. We’re asking that all DSA members and affiliates take 10 minutes out of their day to call Grassley and Ernst. Tell them that they need to reject the AHCA and that the only sensible alternative to the ACA is Medicare for All. This is a chance to get DSA members from all over Iowa working toward health care reform that would truly benefit all Americans.
We have put together a sample statement, which you can refer to, as well as a Google Form, which has the senators’ contact information and a simple report that you can fill out. We would really like to track how many Iowa DSA members call from across the state, so please fill out the form after you call!
DDS will also be co-hosting (with Our Revolution and ADA Iowa) a Medicare for All rally on Sunday, May 21 from 12:00-1:00 PM at the Town Clock Plaza in Dubuque. Check out the Facebook Event Page for more information.

  1. I’m pleading with you to reject the AHCA. I have Lupus, several heart conditions, neuropathy, PTSD, Fibromyalgia, Macular degeneration and have had four mini strokes. I’m 65 years old, I’m a retired teacher, I taught for thirty years. I’m living on Social securit. I receive $906.00 a month. I am on Medicare but I need Medicaid to cover my monthly premium which is $99.00 a month. My prescriptions each month are outrageous!! I’m on twelve different medications because of all of my medical issues. With the bill that was just passed I was just handed a death sentence!! I DON’T WANT TO DIE!! I want to live to be able to enjoy my children and my granddaughters and future grandchildren. I still have so much life in me, still so much more life to experience!! I still have so much more that I want to give of myself to others. Please allow me to live!! Please don’t take my medical away because of all of my preexisting conditions!!! I’m begging you!!!
